Alpine Skiing/Snowboarding

Because of its location, Unterwössen is a good starting point for choosing among various ski lifts, among them the Benzeck Lifts. There is also, like in the nearby Kössen, the popular snow-tubing sites, where seated in huge truck tires you are safely rushing down into the valley.

But our preferred large ski area is the Winkelkmoos/Steinplatte region. There you will find everything skiers and boarders could possibly want. The RVO bus will take you the Seegatterl stop. From there, modern chair and ski lifts will take you to the Winkelmoos Steinplatte ski area. For up-to-date information on cross country skiing and skating, check www.bergfex.at.

Cross Country Skiing | Skating

Snow conditions permitting, you will find cross-country ski trails (called “Loipen” in German) and skating tracks also in our valley.  The Loipe in Unterwössen is a popular destination,, as is the one in Oberwössenn.  For a change, there is the Loipe in nearby Schleching, in the upper part of the Ache River valley . Reit im Winkel, with its reliable snow conditions, offers many kilometers of Loipen; the Winkelmoos offers high altitude Loipen.

A hike on snow shoes

A hike on snow shoes away from the crowds in the quiet of the mountains, and through wide valleys away from trodden paths and roads is a special experience.  However, because of unforeseen weather conditions and avalanches you should join a guided snow shoe hiking group. You will also benefit from the guide’s knowledge of the terrain. He is likely to know the best trails. We and Tourist-Info. will help you find guided tours.

Sledding

We almost wrote that you can sled on any mountain. And that is the truth, provided there is any snow. The fact is, that there is quite a variety of sledding tracks, some of which can be “conquered” by taking a lift, such as the Hochgern, Hochplatte and also the Geigelsteinlift.

Skating

On our lakes and skating rinks, children  have fun with their skates, while the more advanced ages are devoted to the Bavarian version of curling.  Guests arewelcomed to participate.

Winter Walking Trails

Even in the winter, many trails in the valley are plowed. There is nothing that will keep you from taking  a walk.
